Description
 

Two Greek volunteers will travel to the village of Monde in Uganda in order to provide assistance to people of all ages.
The program will take place from 22nd of July till 10th of August 2016 in the community of St. Antonios of Monde. In the framework of the project, the following activities will be conducted:


1. Meeting with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Uganda, in which there will be presented a self-conducted guide for the access of foreigners to the higher education in Greece, with the aim to facilitate the whole process.

2. Meeting with the Dean of the University of Ndejje, in which will be presented the Erasmus + programme, which is now accessible to African countries. It will also be discussed the opportunity of signing bilateral agreements with the greek Universities.
3. Conduction of seminars, courses of English and Greek language, courses of Greek culture and civilization, interactive games, and information to secondary school pupils about the opportunities of studying in Europe in general and more specifically in Greece.

4. Conduction of interactive courses and activities to primary school pupils based on non-formal education and alternative way of teaching.

5. Participation in manual tasks and activities with the locals, and visits to the orphanage of the village of Monde.

Primary School of Saint Demetrios – Poultry farm 01-08-2016 23:40:21

On 26th of July we visited the parish of St. Demetrios, where is located the school "Nicholas Topouzlis" and the orphanage of the parish. The school has 450 students and 9 teachers. We had the opportunity to meet the children, to go through their classrooms and also observe how they spend their time after school. Also we visited the dormitories of the orphanage, where children have a layer or in the best case a bed to sleep and a small suitcase with all their belongings. Children welcomed us...

On Monday 25th we visited the nursery and elementary school Young Comrades - "Erineos Galanakis" (*), attended by 260 pupils! The school was founded from Antonios Mutyaba and his wife, Harriet! We had the opportunity to get to know each other, talk and play together! We offered them pencils, erasers and pencils with colours, material collected during the H-Ug action in Athens! University of Ndejje 01-08-2016 23:34:04

The 2day Training Seminar at the University of Ndejje was successfully completed! On 26th of July, the H-Ug team met with the administrators of the University and presented the Erasmus + program, in which the African universities are able to participate! Yesterday on 07/15/16, it was successfully conducted the event "Give a Ηug" in the café "O Apanw Maxalas" in Kallithea. People from every corner of Athens attended the event, offering school equipment and stationery, discussed with the organizers of the program and wished good luck in this difficult trial. “A journey in the depths of Africa: The H-Ug Project - Help Uganda” 06-07-2016 13:03:30

Marilena Maragkou

Marilena Maragkou is Project Manager European projects. Holding a bachelor in Management and Business Administration from the Piraeus University and a master degree in International Marketing from the Athens University of Economics. She worked and lived in Münster, in Germany where she worked as a marketing research assistant and as a member of the project team of European and international programs in the Science to Business Marketing Research Center (S2BMRC) of Münster University of Applied Sciences. She hasparticipated voluntaril as a member of the project team in European Jean Monnet projects, "YouthActiv" and "EuropeStARTS" in the University of Piraeus. She was also the Project Manager of the European Jean Monnet project "Universities 4 EU" in the University of Piraeusand member of the project team of the project "IN2IN" (ERASMUS +). She has participated in several volunteer student exchange programs in Greece and abroad (ERASMUS, Youth, AIESEC). She speaks five languages and her passion is traveling. So far she has traveled to 26 countries in 4 different continents and aspires to explore more.

 

Konstantinos-Loukianos Maragkos

Konstantinos-Loukianos Maragkos is 24 years old. He is a graduate of Classical Philology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has worked as a research assistant in the department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the University of Vienna for nine months through a scholarship from the Erasmus+ program. He speaks English, German, Italian and French. Recently he has completed his military service in the Special Forces and the Airbonr Infantry Commando Paratroopers. For three months he performed the duties of Trainer in the School of Paratroopers. He has participated in a European youth exchange program in Celano, Italy related to the gender equality and the human rights. Konstantinos was selected to participate in the "Erasmus Mundus European Master in Tourism Management”. Since September 2016, therefore, he will represent Greece for two years, studying at 4 different universities and 4 different countries along with other 33 people from 22 countries around the world. He is also interested in sports, he has run two marathons of 42 km and has trained young people in the martial art of Shaolin Kung-Fu. He has knowledge of lifeguard and first aid skills, and he is also a blood donor volunteer. His favorite activity is traveling. So far he has traveled to more than 25 countries in 4 different continents.
