St. Mary of Egypt Convent: The first women's Orthodox monastery in Uganda

St. Mary of Egypt Convent is located near Kampala, Uganda. Established in 2001, under the Patriarchate of Alexandria, the convent is currently home to three sisters, and five novices, all native Ugandans. Through activities such as iconography, hand crafts, sewing, table wine, and gardening, the sisters are working to sustain the needs of the young monastery as well as the orphan children who make the convent their home.

Visitors:
 

The convent is open to visitors from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Children are most welcome to come as well. We do not currently have overnight accommodations, but we would be happy to assist you if you would like to visit overnight--please contact the monastery if you would like to make arrangements.
