National Parks of Africa

National Parks World Wide

Africa is the second largest continent on the planet covering roughly 20 percent of the Earth’s land surface. Africa has a variety of climates ranging from subarctic to tropical. Africa has a variety of habitats ranging from tropical rainforest near the equator to the arid Sahara Desert further north. While savanna plains or dense jungles cover much of the central and southern areas of Africa, northern Africa, is mainly arid or desert. Since nearly 60 percent of Africa lies in the north, Africa, on average, is the hottest continent on Earth. There are spots in northern Africa that compete with Death Valley for the title of the hottest place in the world. This is in sharp contrast to the subarctic temperatures that can be found on Africa’s highest mountain peaks.

When you think of Africa you think of wild animals. Africa contains some of the world’s most dense, populations of wildlife and the greatest number of mega fauna species of any continent on our planet. Africa provides homes to a variety of jungle wildlife including, our relatives, the primates, a variety of birds from the tropical rainforest, and many, many kinds of reptiles and amphibians. Many well-known animals, including the African elephant, the African lion, the African leopard, the brown hyena, the cheetah, the hippopotamus, the Cape buffalo, the gorilla, the giraffe, the chimpanzee, three species of zebra and two species of rhinoceros are native to Africa. Africa is also home to many beautiful and interesting bird species, including the Ostrich, the secretary bird, the fish eagle, the African grey parrot, just to name a few.

Africa is the second most populated continent on Earth. Many paleoanthropologists consider Africa to be the birth place of modern human beings as fossil evidence of human life has been found in Africa that dates back nearly seven million years. With nearly 15 percent of the world’s human population living in Africa, it has a rich diversity of cultures and languages also making it a fascinating place to visit.

The countries of Africa have recognized the wonderful treasure that they have in their wildlife and natural beautiful of their country sides. As such the governments of nearly every country in Africa have acted to protect these valuable resources by creating African national parks. There are over 300 national parks in Africa protecting more than 100,000 species of insects, nearly 4,000 species of birds, more than 2,000 species of fish and over 1,000 species of mammals. The conservation of Africa’s wilderness is important to these countries because of the increasing impact tourism has on these nations’ economies and because African wildlife is a great source of national pride for many of the people of these African countries. The conservation of Africa’s wildlife and other natural resources is important to the world as there is nowhere else on our planet like Africa and it’s lose would tragic for all of us. The national parks of Africa are important to all of us as protectors of African wildlife. African national parks play a crucial role in preserving the necessary habitat so that African wildlife can live on enrich all of us with their natural beauty.
