The Orthodox Church in Angola, st. Eleftherios (the "Man of Freedom") & st. Paisios of Holy Mount

The presence of Orthodox Christianity in Angola is a recent event. Christianity was introduced to the indigenous population of Angola during the colonial Portuguese period by the Roman Catholic Church. Orthodox Christianity missionary efforts in Angola began in the late twentieth century under the jurisdiction of the Church of Alexandria
Currently, Angola is within the local jurisdiction of the Holy Archdiocese of Zimbabwe and Angola.
Since 2004, the primate of the Metropolis has been His Eminence Seraphim (Kykkotis). Archimandrite Chrysostomos Polizos is vicar of the Metropolitan for Angola.
The parish of St. Eleftherios (a young bishop who has baked alive by the rulers of the Roman Empire - his name means "man of freedom" in Greek) and St. Paisios (1924-1994) of Mount Athos has been established in Luanda (see here & here).

St. Eleftherios. Note: "Eleftherios" [or Eleutherios] is a variant of "Freedom" in Greek, thus, mothers pray that they might safely be free of their pregnancies by giving birth to healthy children. "Anthia" resembles "anthos" meaning flower, and saint martyr Anthia was the mother of St. Eleftherios (from here).
